Welcome Mary Ann Blackmur!

Please welcome our new Executive Director, Mary Ann Blackmur

Mary Ann, being a resident of Hingham and a life-long, dedicated volunteer for numerous organizations, felt it was a calling to be the Executive Director of the Hingham Community Center.
In addition to recently graduating Cum Laude from Harvard University, she also has a volunteer resume that is several pages long. Her past and current volunteer roles are legendary in Hingham, across the South Shore, and extend to Boston and beyond.

While her volunteer resume is inspiring there are a few community events that Mary Ann was an integral part of the founding volunteer team. During her tenure as a co-chair of the Foster Elementary PTO, the Foster Fall Fair was established as a way to bring the Foster School community together. The Foster Fall Fair continues today as a major community event and fundraiser for the school.

While coordinating the Grand Army Hall’s 125th Anniversary Celebration, which included an overnight Civil War Encampment on Town common, Mary Ann reached out to the Hingham Historical Society to collaborate on ideas and events. The Historical Society had been planning Hingham Museum Day and was delighted at the opportunity to have the first Hingham Museum Day held in conjunction with The Grand Army Hall’s 125th Anniversary Celebration. The GAR has a bi-monthly open house and the Hingham Historical Society’s Museum Day has become an annual tradition with a wide array of activities.

Mary Ann was very involved in Hingham Youth Football, as a parent, board member, and Athletic Director. She collaborated with parents and fellow board members, to help grow participation and double the number of teams so that any child could participate regardless of the ability to pay or athletic experience.
At Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, Mary Ann taught CCD and is a Eucharistic Minister, where she especially enjoys serving the Eucharist to residents at Harbor House and the homebound.

Additional charities and organizations in and outside of Hingham have also received Mary Ann’s volunteer services including Rosie’s Place, Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore, Hingham’s Mothers Club, Xaverian Brothers High School, Cradles to Crayons, Interfaith Social Services in Quincy, Road to Responsibility, Harvard Extension School Student Association, Meals on Wheels, Festival of Lights at Christmas in the Square, and Cardinal Cushing Centers in Hanover.

Mary Ann has run multiple local sailing regattas out of both Hingham Yacht Club and Lincoln Maritime, including Hingham Bay Jr. Regatta and the Junior Olympics, respectively.

Mary Ann is currently meeting with and advising the Cohasset 250th Celebration Committee for their upcoming (2020) parade!
